Alright! Sorry for the short delay in this weeks posting, I'll be sure to keep it as regular as possible. But this week we have two of my personal favorites: DMX and Joe Budden. Both made very similar tracks, the conversation with God track - which really is a moment of judgement of self. Let's stark with X. DMX. If it weren't for all the drug references, violence, sex, and cursing - he could probably pass off for a Christian rapper. Seriously. This guy can (and has) delivered some very heavy lyrics of those things and then turned around and gave us some of the best prayers we've ever heard on the very next track. It is my personal opinion, though, that it is this complete circle that has made him great. And yet because it is a circle that cycles in his life, he continues to get caught into the things that bring him down. Some of us who are old enough to remember know, that DMX was once known throughout the world of Hip Hop and every top 10 conversation included him (and for many of us, still does). But in "The Convo" X talks a lot about his struggle to walk in God's light as he is surrounded by all this darkness. He does both voices, and it is as it is titled, a conversation. Which brings us to Joe Budden's "Pray For Me." This track is also a conversational track between Joe Budden and God (voiced by himself I believe). Those that are fans of Joe Budden, and have been for a few years, know that Joe Budden has always been transparent in his music. He does not really hold back or consider too many things to be "private." He really puts his life on display and this song is no different as he brings to light many topics (including an abortion) that many artists would probably want to keep to themselves. Joe's track is sort of a call for judgement and a plead for a second chance at redemption all in the same go. So my question to the fans is: who had the better conversation? Was it the DMX or Joe Budden? DMX - The Convo Joe Budden - Pray For Me This weeks versus will be between two white rappers. Both talented indeed, and with two incredibly similar songs. Take a look. First up we have Dr3w, who is a rapper hailing from Philadelphia. Dr3w is an underground rapper, so far underground he still works a day job underground. That must be pointed out since Rittz is still also considered underground. But let's continue. I first got hip to Dr3w last December during a rap contest and came across one of his videos which was very well done and the song was dope too. I started to follow his progress from there and he entered the Funk Volume contest a few months later. In this contest (February thru March) he submitted his video on March 2nd, 2014 entitled "White Rapper." For which got him a finalist spot. This was a very well done track and video, done in the multiple styles in the white rappers he says he is constantly compared to. For the video please check it out here: Now lets get to the second part of this weeks Versus. Rittz recently released his song entitled "White Rapper." I couldn't help but be drawn instantly to the title and think to myself "thats crazy Dr3w made one called that too." I played the song and I heard that hook and I can't help but feel Rittz wanted to make his own version of Dr3w's track. Not denying Rittz is a talented artist and worked damn hard. Not at all. Take a listen here. So which White Rapper do you feel is better? Discuss. |
