DMX. If it weren't for all the drug references, violence, sex, and cursing - he could probably pass off for a Christian rapper. Seriously. This guy can (and has) delivered some very heavy lyrics of those things and then turned around and gave us some of the best prayers we've ever heard on the very next track.
It is my personal opinion, though, that it is this complete circle that has made him great. And yet because it is a circle that cycles in his life, he continues to get caught into the things that bring him down. Some of us who are old enough to remember know, that DMX was once known throughout the world of Hip Hop and every top 10 conversation included him (and for many of us, still does).
But in "The Convo" X talks a lot about his struggle to walk in God's light as he is surrounded by all this darkness. He does both voices, and it is as it is titled, a conversation.
Which brings us to Joe Budden's "Pray For Me." This track is also a conversational track between Joe Budden and God (voiced by himself I believe).
Those that are fans of Joe Budden, and have been for a few years, know that Joe Budden has always been transparent in his music. He does not really hold back or consider too many things to be "private." He really puts his life on display and this song is no different as he brings to light many topics (including an abortion) that many artists would probably want to keep to themselves. Joe's track is sort of a call for judgement and a plead for a second chance at redemption all in the same go.
So my question to the fans is: who had the better conversation? Was it the DMX or Joe Budden?
